Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Dudhsagar Waterfalls

The Dudhsagar Falls are one of the largest waterfalls in world. It is situated 60 Km from Margoa, to the east of the Goa-Karnatka boundary. The Dudhsagar Waterfalls take a vertical plunge of almost two thousand feet down into the wooded hills of the Western Ghats. These waterfalls are rather serene throughout summers. However, during monsoons, the falls come to life as abundant water gushes downstream. They become a centre for tourist attraction mostly throughout the monsoon season.

Believed to be amidst the largest falls in the homeland, these magnificent falls are found in a blissful tropical jungle with crisscrossing streams. The view from the peak of the falls is breathtaking. The falls look even better at magical light of dawn. For tourists who love water sports, swimming is a good option at the base of the falls only when the water is calm. The sure-footed adventurers could try and ascend up to the head of the falls through bushes, boulders and water. It's a strong ascend which takes nearly two hours. The surrounding area around the waterfalls is a picnic spot and one can spend the entire day in the vicinity of the Dudhsagar waterfalls.

Dudhsagar falls are in the wooden forested area of Western Ghats. The falls can be arrived at by a train from Margoa. A train journey typically takes around two hours. Alternatively, taxis and omnibuses can be hired. Motorcycles are not proposed as the pathway to falls is dotted with waterways and canals, which often overflow. Reaching Margoa is less difficult, as Margoa is well connected to all areas of the state. The Dambolin Airport in Vasco-da-Gama is 5 Km from Margoa. However, there are not many accommodation options alongside Dudhsagar falls. There is a Forest rest-house, owned to by KTDC, alongside the falls. Else travellers can stay at Margoa and plan a one day trip to Dudhsagar Falls.
